McDonald's Gets Humiliated (Publicly), Billionaire Slams Big Food, and A Sleep Protocol that Actually Works
Bad Friday for Big Food + sleep tips
Good morning, Meat Mafia, and happy Friday!
It’s not every day you wake up and get to watch the VP of McDonald’s get utterly roasted on stage (publicly).
But, here we are…
At the CES 2024 Conference in Las Vegas in front of a crowd of thousands of people, Nick Nanakos (the founder of The Food Company) went after one of the big dogs: McDonald's.
Now, it's important to understand the context here. The Food Company is a fast-growing start-up in the food & restaurant industry based out of Austin, Texas. Their flagship concept is the wildly popular ZIKI Kitchens, a seed oil-free health restaurant that utilizes modular kitchens to reach a wider catchment area than a typical restaurant.
The confrontation between Nick and the McDonald's founder is truly a clash between the anti-seed-oil movement and "Big Food". It's a sign of life in the world of "let's fix the poisonous food system that's killing us".
The best part? The Vice President of McDonald's was on stage with him and had absolutely no response. In front of a crowd of 300k+ people at one of the biggest tech conferences in the world, she said nothing.

Edit
The battle against Big Food is a David versus Goliath story, so it's exciting to see more and more people getting interested...
And yesterday billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya took a stance against what is happening in food with this tweet...
We’ve been duped for decades about food:
Turns out sugar isn’t benign. It’s the real poison. Fats aren’t actually bad. They are essential. Carbs aren’t terrible. They are necessary.
We’ve been lied to about plastics. Vaccines. GMOs. The list goes on.
What is the consequence?… pic.twitter.com/sqdQz8CvAS— Chamath Palihapitiya (@chamath) January 11, 2024
Edit
This is the type of momentum we need building in the health and wellness space: real concerns and push back to how our food is more poisonous than nourishment.
I was so jacked up last night after seeing both Nick and Chamath laying it down against Big Food that I had a hard time sleeping...
Which is odd for me because I have been dominating my sleep hygiene lately.
Here's my 5 principles for crushing sleep hygiene:
Optimizing circadian biology: Walk first thing in the AM (get morning sun + feet in the grass)
Reducing/eliminating stimulants and disruptors: No food after 7pm + no coffee after noon
Limit blue light exposure: No screens (TV, phone, etc. after 7pm)
Dedicated wind down: spend an hour winding down with reading and meditation
Gadgets and sleep aids: supplementing with glycine + magnesium, nasal strips, and mouth tape
